Reading
Encouraging our students to enjoy reading is a vital function of the Learning Resource Centre. This year all of the year 7 takes part in the Accelerated Reading programme which introduces students to engage with varying genres.
The centre promotes new books with exciting displays to encourage students to read and develop their reading practise.
A Novel idea
The Year 7 book club meets Wednesday Lunchtime in the LRC. Together we read and discuss books form the Carnegie section along with up and coming new authors.
Reading – Book awards / CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Children’s book awards
What is the Carnegie award
The Carnegie award is a British literary award presented annually to the writer of the most outstanding children’s book. This award was founded in honour by Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) a Scottish born philanthropist who found more than 2800 libraries. This award was first established in 1935 by the British library association.
Kate Greenaway awards
The Kate Greenaway award partners the Carnegie and is presented to the distinguished children’s book illustration.
