The Sixth Form
Students are encouraged to complete a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) of their choice during the summer break. Courses cover a wide variety of specialised topics which develop a student’s understanding of the subject area. A large number of them are written and accredited by universities. The completion of a MOOC demonstrates an impressive commitment to personal and academic development, and this will be recognised within the reference that the school will write for students. The following website details a range of excellent courses on offer FutureLearn.
TED Talks are influential videos featuring expert speakers from various fields such as education, business, science and creativity. These talks focus on sharing valuable knowledge, innovative research and ‘ideas worth spreading’. The are available with subtitles in over 100 languages and can be streamed or downloaded for free. click here.

Applications are now open for to the PARTNERS programme supported entry route for those apply for 2027 entry. PARTNERS is for Year 13/final year students. For those students applying to Medicine or Dentistry, the deadline for applications is the 22nd October. "The PARTNERS programme has definitely helped me grow both academically and personally. Newcastle University Head Start to Uni |
Head Start to Uni is an event for Year 13 students who have applied or about to apply to university. This year the event will take place on Friday 6 November, 9:30am-3pm on the University Campus. Attendees will take part in a student Q&A, two optional sessions and an optional campus tour. All sessions will take place within University teaching facilities. |

Mini-Medical School |
Newcastle University's Mini-Medical School runs every autumn and is open to anyone aged 15 and over. The programme offers the public the chance to find out about exciting topics. This includes current research developments at the University. The Mini Medical School will be held on Zoom and run on Thursdays 5pm-6pm from 5th November to 10th December 2026. |

The Sutton Trust Summer Schools |
