Positive achievement
We want to recognise the standard we expect, to let students know that we appreciate how well they are doing and use rewards to continue to develop positive relationships. The behaviours we value in school are for process and effort, not simply skill or talent, so it encourages and builds a sense of resilience and determination to improve. ClassCharts is used by all staff to recognise when students meet our expectations. Positive points are recorded and accumulate over the year. Milestones are recognised through the awarding of certificates and in awards assemblies, with special rewards for those gaining key milestones such as 800+ positives.
Reward and Recognition
Rewards are offered to all students to celebrate their success throughout the year in several different ways. Recognition of student achievement is also done through the ‘Good Egg’ award, where a student’s success is recognised by the Headteacher. There are also key focus weeks dedicated to kindness and respect, as well as RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) events throughout the year. During these events, students can gain extra positives.
Choice and consequence
We continue to have a consequence system for any behaviour that is not acceptable in our school. These behaviours will result in a negative being logged on ClassCharts for both the student and parent to see. It will clearly explain why the incident has been recorded and should act as a reminder not to repeat this behaviour in the future. Further negatives may result in more serious consequences, such as lunchtime detention.
Mobile phones and headphones
Students may bring phones/headphones to school, but they must not be used during school hours. If they choose to use their mobile phone/headphones in school, it will be confiscated and kept safe until the end of the school day. Whilst we have robust filtering systems to protect students on their iPads whilst they are in school, they do not extend to personal devices. Therefore, we cannot ensure their safety online if they choose to use their mobile phone whilst in school.
Using the Positive Achievement system in this way means we can fairly and consistently recognise and reward positive behaviours which reflect our values, as well as reinforce excellent habits for learning. It also provides timely and specific feedback to students on the areas they can improve and gives appropriate consequences when our expectations are not met. Parental access to ClassCharts will enable you to view your child’s information. If you require further information about the Positive Achievement system, this can be found in our ‘Respectful Relationships and Behaviour Policy.’
