HGS has pledged its commitment to ensure that diversity and equality are cultures embedded in whole school life, celebrating the richness and diversity of the school community and its collective achievements in this area of provision.

The Red Kite Alliance RED Award has been developed to support schools to review, strengthen and celebrate their provision in terms of equality, diversity, respect for individuals and community cohesion. Harrogate Grammar School’s engagement with the award signals a clear commitment to place this agenda at the heart of the school. The Award provides a framework within which schools can evaluate their current diversity and equality provision and recommends action plans to strengthen and embed a cohesive, inclusive, respectful ethos across the entire school. The award also supports schools meeting their statutory duties, including those under The Equality Act 2010.

Harrogate Grammar School is proud to be a part of this initiative and pleased to have completed the first stage of this process. We are committed to working towards the next stages of the award, to strengthen, and continue to celebrate, the diversity of our community and to work towards equality in all its forms in our aim of ‘Excellence for all’.

Equality and inclusion are central to Harrogate Grammar School’s core REACH values (Respect, Excellence, Adventure, Commitment & Honesty). The school celebrates the identity and individuality of every student, as well as the wider school community, to ensure all members of our community feel safe and able to thrive within the school. We have a dedicated Diversity and Reach Out team and Ms Ivatts coordinates this work, supported by Ms Devey, with the focus on mapping coverage across the curriculum, supporting provision for assemblies and bulletin spotlights and supporting the team response to any student ‘Reaching out’.

Headteacher, Neil Renton said, “Harrogate Grammar School is proud to be a part of this initiative, working towards equality in all its forms, in our continued aim of excellence for all. We are committed to strengthening and celebrating our community's diversity.”
