Today, Harrogate Grammar School is celebrating another year of strong A-Level outcomes, with students achieving excellent results across a wide range of subjects and securing ambitious next steps in education, employment, and training. This year's cohort of 294 students achieved 59 per cent of grades at A*-B, whilst more than a quarter of all grades were awarded at the highest grades of A* or A. Performing at an exceptional level, 27 students achieved four grades at A or A*, with six students securing four A* grades. Across the cohort, students demonstrated the academic excellence that have become hallmarks of the Sixth Form experience at Harrogate Grammar School.
The achievements of this year's cohort have opened the door to an exciting range of future opportunities. Students are progressing to leading universities, higher and degree apprenticeships, college courses, employment, and gap year experiences. The breadth of destinations reflects the school's commitment to ensuring that every student is supported to find the pathway that is right for them and to achieve success in their chosen field.
A total of 259 students (88 per cent of the year group) applied to university to study a range of courses. Students take up courses in subjects such as physiotherapy, and several allied healthcare professions, as well as courses in the humanities, law, social sciences, arts, drama, music, sciences, maths, languages, business, and education. Based on information currently available, over 73 per cent of applicants have gained places at their first-choice university and 93 per cent achieved places overall – an incredible achievement. This year we have also seen several students progressing to similarly competitive degree apprenticeship and successfully gaining places at Rolls Royce, BDO, Grant Thornton and RSM.
Headteacher Neil Renton said:
“Today we not only celebrate such impressive results, but also a year group who embraced opportunities, supported one another, and demonstrated the ambition and resilience needed to succeed. Seeing so many students achieving exceptional outcomes and securing exciting next steps is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of their families and colleagues at HGS."
Director of Sixth Form Ben Twitchin added:
"This cohort has been a pleasure to work with and today is a celebration of everything they have achieved. They challenged themselves, supported their peers and approached their studies with determination and maturity. We look forward to seeing all that they will achieve in the years ahead."
