The Sixth Form

Selecting your programme of study

A Level, Level 3 BTEC & Cambridge Technical

Selecting programmes of study

A Level, BTEC and Cambridge Technicals are Level 3 qualifications that take you beyond the Level 2 qualifications studied at GCSE. With 40 courses on offer, the Sixth Form provides a great deal of choice for you to construct a programme of study that suits your needs.

A Level

At A Level your final grade will be based on examinations taken at the end of a two year course.

Level 3 BTEC & Cambridge Technical

The BTEC and Cambridge Technical Qualifications are equivalent to one A Level. Two years of study must be completed to obtain accreditation. These courses contain significant project-based assessments.

What combination of courses will be right for me?

You will select three full subjects at the start of Year 12 along with one of the additional choices.

Selecting the most appropriate courses is one of the most important factors in achieving success at Sixth Form. Some subjects have a traditional exam focus and others are assessed through project-based assessments throughout the course.

You will be advised about choosing combinations of subjects, and those students with particular career aspirations, such as medicine, will be given guidance as to which subjects will be essential for further study. For students who are mainly achieving grades 4 or 5 at GCSE, we recommend a certain number of project-based courses to help balance workload.

We want all students to leave our Sixth Form having been successful in their subjects and being able to follow the university, apprenticeship or employment path.
