Paul is the senior partner of Eversheds LLP office in Leeds, specialising in the employment law with over 20 years of experience in advising educational establishments and major FTSE 100 companies. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. Paul lives in Harrogate and is married to Helen, has three children. Paul is a passionate sportsman with particular interest in rugby, running and golf. Paul has been a governor of HGS since 2012.

Jonathan has worked for over 20 years as a barrister based in Leeds. Prior to that he worked as a lawyer in the corporate finance sector in London. He is a keen sportsman with a strong commitment to sport in general.  He has two sons at Harrogate Grammar School.

Richard started his teaching career in Leicester before moving to Leeds as a Head of Dept. Having worked as a Deputy Headteacher in a Bradford school he took up his first Headship in Leeds in 2001 before joining HGS as Headteacher in 2006. Richard is a National Leader of Education and until recently an Ofsted inspector.

Tricia has degrees in Environmental Studies and Medicine. As a medical Practitioner she has worked in General Practice, Antenatal Care & Treatment of Substance Misuse during the past 20 years. Previously a primary school governor for 8 years & a governor at HGS since 2008, she is particularly involved with Safeguarding issues. Her 3 children all attended HGS from years 7 to 13.

Ian Sugarman

Ian has two children at HGS. He has been a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Leeds General Infirmary for 16 years, previously training in Southampton and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London. Ian has also recently been elected as CEO of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons, a charitable organisation concerned with the surgical care of children in the UK and has exposed him both to charitable and national policy matters in child health.

David Hurcomb

David has held a number of senior posts in industry and is currently the CEO of NG Bailey group, a family owned engineering, construction and support services business, operating in a number of private and public sectors.  A Chartered Accountant and Engineer, David lives in the Harrogate area with his wife and two sons, the eldest of whom is at Harrogate Grammar School.

Jayne has a degree in Maths and has worked for a large consultancy for many years as an actuary advising on occupational pensions. Since leaving work to become a full time mum, she has had several voluntary roles working for local children organisations. Jayne has three children, one in year 10 at Harrogate Grammar School and twins in year 6.

John Topping

John is a Chartered Accountant and has worked for over 25 years at Marshalls Plc. He has wide finance leadership experience and is currently a Business Process Director responsible for the Shared Services and Process Improvement functions. John lives in the Harrogate area with his wife and four children; all are or have completed their education at Harrogate Grammar School. He is a keen tennis player and supporter of team sports.

Janis Watson

Janis is a teacher of Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics and has been for 20 years, she has been at Harrogate Grammar School for 13 years. She was a staff governor in her previous school. During her time at HGS she has been heavily involved in the Sixth Form, both as a sixth form tutor and more recently as a Senior Tutor. In this role she has supported the Sixth Form team and the Tutor team, as well as working with students, helping them progress from HGS to future careers and employment. She lives in Harrogate and has twin girls in Year 2.
