Sporting success for the climbing and rugby teams
It has been an extremely busy term for the PE faculty. There have had some particularly successful sporting achievements in several sports including climbing and rugby.
The Climbing Team won the Inter School Climbing Competition which was held at the Leeds Climbing Wall. The team comprised of 6 highly talented students ranging from Year 7 to Year 13 who were taking part in bouldering and top roping. Holly Rayfield demonstrated power and technical skill at the competition to win the Under 17 girls group and Nicole Cirulli was not far behind coming 3rd in a very competitive group. Adam Visick climbed extremely well to claim 2nd place in the Under 17 boys group. Ellen Young, India Russell and Harry Warburton also competed and climbed to a very high standard. A special mention has to go to Ellie Rymer who could not compete due to an injury but came as team coach and provided fantastic knowledge and motivation to the students.
On Monday 24th March, 200 of the brightest and best Young Ambassadors from across the country travelled to Wembley, the home of football, to celebrate the hard work and dedication that they have put into their schools. There were over 400 applications to go to the awards day from which Jasmine Cannon was selected to represent the school due to her outstanding leadership and brilliant work ethic with children. The leaders took part in workshops which were led by Olympians who represented team GB at the 2012 Olympics. At the end of the day students were inspired and keen to take what they had learnt back into their schools to inspire the next generation of Sport Leaders.
On the rugby pitch five students have been particularly successful. Joe Smith, Hugo Tasker and Jacques Haddleton have been selected to represent Yorkshire at Under 15 level and Luke Willard and Harry Yates have been selected to join the ERDPP via Leeds Carnegie. This is the first step on the England Rugby Developing Player Programme.
