U13’s Hockey team reach National Schools final
Harrogate Grammar School U13’s hockey team achieved tremendous success in reaching the National Schools 7-a-side Hockey Finals at Beeston HC, Nottingham, having won the North of England title last March. The last time a Harrogate Grammar School team reached a national hockey final was back in 1984. This was an exceptionally high standard event being up against the elite of the English independent school system and the standard of hockey played was exceptional. However, they lost all four group games to. St. Georges College (Surrey), Oakham (Leicstershire), Stamford (Lincolnshire) and Dean Close (Gloucstershire). In the 9th/10th play-off they bounced back drawing 1-1 with Bishop Veseys (Warwickshire) but won 4-3 on penalty strokes. Overall it was a great experience and the boys are inspired to reach the national finals next year in the U14 11 a side version of the game.
