Maths success for the Senior and Intermediate Challenges
The last few months have been very busy with Maths competitions. We have had the individual Senior and Intermediate Maths Challenges organised by the UK Mathematics Trust. 8 students did so well in these that they made it onto the following rounds and received certificates and prizes.
The Senior Team Challenge regional heat, which was held in York in November was won by 6th formers, Hugo Strauss, Tom Davenport, Andrew McFarthing and Jamie Robson. They did a fantastic job representing themselves and the school at the national final in London in February where they came in the top 10 of all comprehensive schools in the country.
The Team Challenge regional heat, held in March at Lawnswood School in Leeds, for Year 8 and 9 students was very close. Simran Panesar, Jacob Dale, Parsa Sabet and Thaddeus Davey performed exceptionally well and finished 3rd out of nearly 30 schools in the competition. They had to use all their mathematical skills and knowledge in the 4 rounds, which consist of group questions, a crossnumber puzzle, a paired mini relay and large relay race of 30 questions.
Well done to everyone who has taken part in the Maths competitions so far, the individual Junior Challenge is still to come!
