Application for Confucius classroom

The Leeds Confucius Business Institute is building up to a series of celebrations at Leeds University to celebrate 10 years as a global organisation working to spread an understanding of Chinese language and culture across the globe.

Harrogate Grammar School has recently made an application, in partnership with the Business Confucius Institute in Leeds, to become a Confucius Classroom and if successful the school would become the first Confucius Classroom in Yorkshire. Confucius Classroom status is awarded in recognition of an established and growing Chinese programme and carries with it sustainable funding to further develop resources and initiatives. A group of students from HGS have just left for China, for the second Chinese Exchange and over 90 students are now studying Chinese at the school under the guidance of their newly appointed Chinese teacher Mr Wei Shao.

The Business Confucius Institute in Leeds is two years old this year and Harrogate Grammar School is the first school to be working in collaboration with them. They are keen to explore the development of more Confucius Classrooms with the Red Kite Alliance which is a network of 15 schools.

HGS will hear whether their application has been successful shortly.
